Will Blog For Links-Building a Tribe

February 25, 2010 · 12 comments

No matter what your goals are for blogging, you want someone to look at it, read it or hear it. Otherwise, it sits there, alone, in the rain, waiting to die. Oops, went into a Hemingway lapse for a moment. The point is, how best to promote your blog.

The point is, how best to promote your blog.

I don’t usually post in the middle of the week, but this is an exception. Notice the “Bring Back Links” banner (how could you not?) to the right. Danny Cooper, of DannyCooper.org has created, or rather recreated an idea that can help anyone with promotion. Backlinks.

Danny has combined Backlinks with the Tribes concept. I think this is a great idea, if it is implemented correctly. The bottom line is, you need backlinks from sites relevant to your niche. This is self-explanatory, but just to be clear, you don’t want links from a How to Knit site if your site is about tech gadgets.

I write for beginning bloggers. If that is you, keep in mind that all this has to do with SEO – Search Engine Optimization. I strongly suggest that as you progress with building your site, read Ann Smarty’s blog. She is an authority on SEO. I’ve been building websites for years, and I admit, SEO is complex. It is also something to think about if you want people to find and read your site.

In this video, Matt Cutts talks a little about Backlinks. Have a look. And consider joining the Backlinks tribe.

Great post Hal! That video was awesome! I found a number of good takeaways from it. The biggest one was making a site map of my blog and then submitting it to Google. I had never heard that before (I know, I am slowing learning this SEO stuff:)

Thanks Kevin. The Linkback tribe is a super idea.

Bring Back Links is an interesting project. I can't promise to backlink in every post, but I'll try and do more!

Thanks Randy. No one can do it all the time.

The idea is to join Danny Cooper's group and backlink where it is appropriate. Add your name to the group – see http://dannycooper.org/backlinks/ and copy the names from there. I don't plan to backlink where it doesn't fit either.

Thanks for the comment Randy.

I need to look more closely at this later and don't have time today, but I saw this on your sidebar the other day and love the idea. Thanks for explaining it. In the words of the great Arnold, “I'LL BE BACK.”

Thanks for featuring my idea on your blog, Hal. For some reason I didn't get alerted in my wordpress panel, hence why I'm a bit late to the party!

I agree with you and Randy, there is no use 'forcing the links' or trying to link where it doesn't fit.

You're welcome Danny, and thanks for stopping by. When I read your post it occurred to me, I don't see a lot of backlinks anywhere anymore. I look forward to what other ideas and posts you have.

I do have another post/idea in the making right now actually Hal, only around 4/5 people have access to it at the moment, if you have an email address I could send it you

I'd love to hear it. I don't want to put my address in this comment. If you don't mind, use this:

And I'll get back to you asap.
